- Validate the feelings of the other person.
- Put forward your position with self-confidence.
- Say “no” if you mean “no”.
- Take your time.
- Don’t make excuses.
- Don’t let yourself or others feel inferior.
- Be specific.
- Be aware of your voice and body language.
- Maintain eye contact.
- Don’t feel guilty if you want to say “no”.
- Cope with the criticism that you may receive.
