Occupational Health & Safety Champions honoured

Occupational Health and Safety Champions from the different regions within the Eden District Municipality were honoured with awards in order to encourage, recognise and celebrate their significant contribution made towards safety performances within the municipality.

These awards ceremonies took place respectively in Oudtshoorn, George and Riversdale. A buildup of great anticipation and excitement was evident as team members awaited the results of the judging panel. Floating trophies were handed out to the four winning teams in each region.  This event is considered to be one of the highlights of the year among participating teams and is used by management to reinforce teamwork, build the moral of employees and to promote safety in the workplace.

The participating teams were:
1.    Fire and Emergency Services
2.    Environmental Health Practitioners
3.    Resorts
4.    Administration and Stores Section

The criteria against which teams were judged are as follows:
–    OHS legal compliance;
–    OHS leadership
–    Number of incidents within the team; and
–    Contribution to improve OHS initiatives;

The winners of the respective regions are as follows:

The George Stores office was the winners in the Administration and Stores Section.  Mr Mthetho Sithonga, Chairperson for the Eastern Health and Safety Committee handed over the trophy to Mr Andre Esterhuizen, the Safety Representative of the Stores Section in George.

The George EHP office was the overall winner in their category.  The trophy was handed to Ms Khanyisa Shoto, Safety Representative of the office and Mr Clifford Mdingi, Chief:  Municipal Health Services at the George office.
