Union Stars, Mossel Bay through to Sedgars SWD Premier League final

SEDGARS-LOGO3Union Stars, who are still unbeaten this season, will take on Mossel Bay in the SWD Sedgars Premier League final on Saturday. Union Stars defeated Harlequins Forces by 2 wickets at the Bridgton Sport Grounds and Mossel Bay knocked-out the defending champions, NMMU George, as they recorded a five wicket victory.

A fine bowling display at the Bridgton Sport Grounds by Marcello Piedt (3/22), Glenton Stuurman (2/25), Justin Jordaan (3/27) and André Olivier (2/1) restricted Harlequins to only 115 (43 overs). Union Stars, who lost wickets with regular intervals, however held their nerves as they reached the target – 118/8 – thanks to two successive boundaries by Marcello Piedt (12*; 7 balls) after 23.2 overs.

NMMU (115 all out – 37.3 overs) were also dismissed cheaply against Mossel Bay (116/5 – 34.1 overs). Erinn Ewerts (59*; 71 balls; 10×4) played a vital innings together with Sammy-Joe Avontuur (27) to clinch a place a place in the final with a five wicket victory.
