Eden DM Water Week Celebrations

National Water Week was celebrated in both Knysna and George in partnership with the Eden District Municipality on 16-18 March 2015, under the theme: “Water Has No Substitute”.  Pupils of Knysna- and Percy Mdala High Schools were treated to a guided tour of the Knysna Water Works where after they participated in a thrilling drama workshop of water related activities which were designed to educate learners towards the importance of water conservation.

Eden District Municipality commented that: “Water Week each year continues to serve as a powerful campaign mechanism re-iterating the value of water, the need for sustainable management of this scarce resource and the role water plays in eradicating poverty and under-development in South Africa.”

The celebration of Water Week throughout the district continues, building on the ongoing awareness creation within the broader Western Cape. This awareness creation is coupled with the responsibility every citizen must take in ensuring the integrity of our water resources and its efficient use. Particularly, the linkages between water services, supply, resource management, poverty eradication, social and economic development are emphasised in a number of innovative ways.
