CSA and the Willowton Group recently announced the names of the 14 young cricketers who will benefit from the Sunfoil Education Trust (SET) in 2015. Two more will be added in due course.The Trust was launched last year to support promising young cricketers to develop through the CSA Pipeline while pursuing formal education and training.

The SET is governed by four Trustees, two each appointed by CSA and Sunfoil sponsoring R2 000 for every 6 R1 000 for every 4 scored by the Castle Lager Proteas in a home Sunfoil Series Test match. Funding already accumulated since inception of the Trust exceeds R1.5m.

The SET is governed by four Trustees, two each appointed by CSA and Sunfoil. Trustees are responsible to govern the Trust and approve the deserving cricketers based on the criteria that were established along along the following lines:

  • Cricketers needing support in the pursuit of education and training at Schools or Tertiary Institutions approved by the Trustees;
  • The allocation of bursaries and/or support should mirror that of the SA population;
  • The support should seek to meaningfully advance the transformation of SA cricket.

To support young cricketers, CSA has also designed a mentorship and support program in an attempt to improve the success rate of the recipients. This will be managed by CSA with support and guidance from the Trustees.

“Cricket is very fortunate to have sponsors like Sunfoil who have shown their desire to be involved in our broader society and not just cricket. Their willingness to invest in our talented young children is beyond measure and has to be applauded” commented  CSA Chief Executive, Haroon Lorgat

The Momentum 2 Excellence Bursary Programme (M2E) has announced its first intake of successful candidates for the 2015 school year.

Financial Services Company Momentum, along with partners CSA and MAD CHARITY™ (Make A Difference) launched the sports motivated bursary programme last year, which offers successful applicants additional support in the form of practical help, life-skills training and a structured mentorship and leadership programme component.

The bursary programme is unique in the way that it balances cricket talent together with academic potential, focusing on developing young talent holistically and creating the platform to succeed in both sports and school life.

Five young men from around the country have been selected for the 2015 Momentum 2 Excellence intake.  They are from Oudtshoorn, East London, Queenstown, Cape Town and George.  Three scholars will be staying at their existing schools and two have moved to CSA identified cricket schools with strong academic standing.  The selection criterion includes a focuses on cricket talent, academic merit and personal attributes.   A cricket / academic mentorship programme in place from MAD CHARITY will contribute significantly to their success, especially with adapting to new surroundings or with the load of expectation now placed on them.  The bursary programme is available to girls too, and they are encouraged to apply.
