Before Eden District Municipality’s Executive Mayor handed over cheques to the value of R198 000 in total to various non-governmental organisations situated in the region, he emphasised: “Use the funds constructively and use it for the right purpose”.
The cheques were handed over to the beneficiaries on Wednesday, 25 March 2015, in the Office of the Executive Mayor. The respective beneficiaries are in some way responsible for ensuring that the economy of Eden is stimulated by means of creating job opportunities, the provision of quality education, boosting of sport and local talent, as well as enhancing social development initiatives in the Eden district.
An amount of R100 000 were availed to the KKNK for its “Kunste Onbeperk” project; R35 000 to Oudtshoorn Animal Welfare; R30 000 for the Easter Mayoral Cup that is presented in the Uniondale area; R30 000 to Pierewiet Crèche in Volmoed for a kitchen facility and R3 000 for Moonlight Soccer Club in Dysselsdorp to fund their sport gear.
Mayor Van der Westhuizen extended a word of appreciation to Eden’s Portfolio Councillor: Finance, Cllr Johan Koegelenberg, for assisting with the funding, the Manager in his office, Mr Vyani Gouws for the business plans which he drafted, as well as his Personal Assistant, Ms Suerhete Fransman who liaised with the beneficiaries on a regular basis to ensure that the cheques are indeed handed over.
In closing, the beneficiaries warmly thanked Mayor Van der Westhuizen and Eden District Municipality as a whole, for the funds that were made available, to ensure that the challenges the district are faced with, are addressed.
