March total industry sales came in at 55 449 vehicles, an increase of 3113 vehicles compared to February, NAAMSA said.
This growth was driven mainly by strong sales in light, medium and heavy commercial vehicles.
General Motors South Africa (GMSA) sold a total of 6 889 units at NAAMSA level in March with strong sales from Isuzu and Chevrolet Light Commercial Vehicles.
At a dealer level GMSA share increased for the third month in 2015 to 9.2% with 5 103 vehicles sold.
Isuzu KB had its best sales month since March 2011 with 1 672 units sold. The Chevrolet Utility was GMSA’s second best-selling model and had its best sales month
Other highlights for GMSA were the new Opel Adam which continues to prove popular in the market with 162 units sold. Mokka which was only at dealers little more than a week before month end sold 173 units. Opel sold a total of 489 vehicles putting the brand on track to double sales volumes for the year.
“Looking forward to April, we expect to continue the momentum in the LCV sales and continue to see new customers at Opel dealerships as we roll out the new Corsa and Mokka for their first full months of sales. We are also looking forward to the launch of the updated 2015 Chevrolet Cruze from mid-April,” said Brian Olson, GMSA vice president vehicle sales, service and marketing.
