Branden Grace: Grace forces first 3-way playoff, then wins

Branden Grace got by Charley Hoffman 2 and 1 in the third round of the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Match Play Championship and forced a three-way playoff that includes Zach Johnson.

To cap an impeccably played match, Grace landed his tee ball at the par-3 17th to just 19 inches. He was already 1-up, so Hoffman needed to hole out from the rough to extend. It didn’t happen. Neither golfer squared a bogey or worse today. Both found four birdies on the front side and turned all square. Grace took the lead with a birdie-2 at the 13th hole. They traded pars until the clincher. Jason Day, who was the top seed in this group, went 0-3 at TPC Harding Park, so he’s the only among the four that has already been officially eliminated.

Louis Oosthuizen: Oosthuizen snares the berth from Bubba Watson

With his win in 19 holes over Bubba Watson in the third round of the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Match Play Championship, Louis Oosthuizen has advanced to the round of 16.

Both went 2-0 to set the stage for the loser-goes-home tilt today, so it’s poetic that they needed an extra hole to determine the winner. Oosthuizen emerged with a birdie-4 at the first hole the second time through to earn the berth. He had held the lead for six holes bridging the turn but Watson connected three birdies to steal it at the par-4 14th. Oosthuizen’s birdie-3 at 16 squared. Both parred 17 and 18 to force sudden death.
