South Western Districts Cricket recently announced the players that will be part of the 2015 SWD Cricket Academy Intake. This will be the sixth intake of the SWD Cricket Academy. Two of the players, Hanno Kotze and Ottneil Baartman were part of the 2014 intake and went on the represent SWD at first class level and was also selected for the Warriors franchise academy team.
It is encouraging to note the names of Gary Wagner, Eldin Rossouw, Johandré Barnard, and Jaco van Greunen who all represented SWD at junior level. Coenraad Nel represented the Boland u/18 team last year while Mtobelie Bandingawo and Ayabonga Khitshini are both two talented players that emerged through the SWD development program.
According to SWD Cricket Chief Executive Officer, Albertus Kennedy, Cricket South Africa has invested in provincial academies to ensure that talented players are prepared for the next level. “The successful implementation of the academy program is paramount for the long term player pipeline sustainability of both the franchise and affiliates as well as the holistic development of talented cricketers”
The top players from SWD will be considered for the Cobra’s franchise academy team that will participate in the CSA Franchise tournament that will be hosted in September.
The SWD intake is: Hanno Kotze, Ottneil Baartman , Coenraad Nel , Mthobeli Bandingawo , Cresendo Maksella , Gary Wagner, Ayabonga Khitshini , Eldin Rossouw, Johandre Barnard, Nelson Setimati, Sinalo Godfrey Sidinana, Ethan Coeries, Wiaan Oosthuisen and Jaco van Greunen
