One Night in Cape Town returns with 2 nights instead of 1

With Oppikoppi announcing international artists Gogol Bordello, Twin Atlantic and Brand New, Hilltop Live and Jägermeister are proud to announce the dates (yes dateS) for One Night in Cape Town.

Organisers (Hilltop Live) and sponsors (Jägermeister) settled on 2 separate evenings – stepping away from the previous events plan of 1 night with all headliner artists performing, due to numerous venue issues in Cape Town.  Finding a new venue for One Night in Cape Town proved to be a sticky situation until viewing the hottest nightclub in Cape Town – Shimmy Beach Club.  As the sun sets over the Mother City, fans of Gogol Bordello can look forward to a stand alone performance on Thursday 6 August, while alternative rockers Twin Atlantic and Brand New will close down Shimmy Beach Club on Friday 7 August.

A limited number of tickets will be made available for each evenings performance. With tickets for the 2014 One Night in Cape Town selling out weeks before the concert date, fans are encouraged to not wait to buy their tickets.  Fans of the bands can experience each band in an intimate setting while still getting the full stadium show.

Gogol Bordello

“We’re not a whimsical band with a whimsical message”.

With their uncategorizable blend of international influences, anchored by the gypsy rhythms, Italian flavoured mandolin, a reggae pulse and scorching Russian violin, it’s no surprise that Oppikoppi welcomes, Gogol Bordello to the dust bowls of Oppikoppi 21.

Formed in 1999, Gogol Bordello have toured endlessly and with their theatrical stage shows made them international headliners.  Having released 9 albums in their career, fans of the group can look forward to tracks like ‘Wonderlust Kings’, ‘ Movement One: Wearing Purple’, ‘Immigraniada’ as well as tracks off their 2013 album Pura Vida Conspiracy, ‘We Rise Again’ and ‘Dig Deep Enough’.

For a group that believes “if you have true human spirt, you can’t fit into any genre, nationality or culture. To be a true citizen of the world, you can only be an ultimate outsider”, our family of outsiders awaits their performance.

Twin Atlantic

Ferocious shows across Scotland, Europe and America while supporting their idols, My Chemical Romance, Circa Survive, Taking Back Sunday, Blink182, Foo Fighters and even Bruce Springsteen, have solidified themselves as one of the mainstream artists in the world.

Formed in 2007, the Scottish group have released 3 albums, and their latest offering has seen the hits ‘Heart and Soul’ and ‘Hold On’ move away from the bands punk rock background to addictive, arms-aloft anthems with catchy choruses.

After performing 4 years running at both Leeds and Redding festival and confirmed for their 5th year at both, the band wondered how they’d take their music further.

Brand New

Although the members of Brand New cut their teeth in various hardcore bands, the group took a more melodic approach to its own work, the band took shape in 2000 around the talents of drummer Brian Lane, vocalist/guitarist Jesse Lacey, bassist Garrett Tierney and guitarist Vin Accardi.

Post hardcore seems like a short sell, but Brand New, has evolved from a pop-punk outfit to the heavier sound that some might call “post hardcore”. Brand New have released 4 albums that have stepped up in a natural progression, that together forms the messiest love story you will ever hear. Asking all the right questions and answering it in the next line, with songs such as ”The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot”, “The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows”, Sic Transit Gloria”, “Okay I Believe You, But My Tommy Gun Don’t”, “Jaws Theme Swimming”, this has become the gospel of the Brand New fans. Brand New are set to release their first album in 6 years at the end of 2015.

The best in South Africa to complete the line ups for One Night in Cape Town

Fans of the One Night in Cape Town shows have had strong opinions on who should be opening for both evening of shows.  Since the announcement that the international artists will be performing over 2 separate evenings, the Facebook and Twitter accounts have received numerous suggestions.  Hilltop Live & Jägermeister have listened and at times felt that the fans have been reading our minds and are excited to announce the local line up.

Joining Gogol Bordello on Thursday 6 August, two Capetonian artists, both who bring their unique blend of punk, gypsy, blues, pirate, folk to the scene – Nomadic Orchestra and Mr Cat & The Jackal.  Both are infamous within the local scene for re-igniting a once dying genre, there could be no better pairing.

Nomadic Orchestra is a five-piece instrumental dance group who’s primaryy goal is to get people moving.  The band makes an infection kind of high-energy music – even the most prudish find themselves unconsciously tapping their feet.  They are influenced by Klexmer, gypsey and circus music as well as contemporary western party music.

Mr Cat & The Jackal is a unique five piece multi-instrumental group often described as experimental acoustic folk whilst exploring blues, tango, pirate, Balkan and Irish themes. With a circus of sounds created by foreign and handmade instruments – their live performance calls for a complete theatrical experience.

Last but by no means least, joining Twin Atlantic (SCO) and Brand New (US) on Friday 7 August, will be Cape Town artist, The Plastics. The Plastics have become household names since they broke onto the scene with their debut album ‘Shark which included the tracks ‘Caves” which went to No1. on Campus Radio stations as well as spent 4 weeks at No1.  on 5fm’s Rock Chart hosted by Jon Savage.  Since then, the band released ‘Best Pretenders’ which saw them being nominated  for two MK awards for “Best Group” and “Best Indie Band”.
Tickets for both evenings performances are selling fast.  With a limited number of tickets being made available, people are encouraged to get their tickets early.
