Designed for everyday enjoyment and most definitely value –for-money, the Alchemy Syrah Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 and Alchemy Merlot Malbec Cabernet Franc 2013 were each awarded a Gold medal at this year’s Gold Wine Awards.

A consumer judged competition, the criteria for the Gold Wine Awards is that only wines R80 or less may enter, and are judged on this basis as well as their quality. More than 90% of all wines produced in South Africa fall in this price category, with very little to guide consumers on the best value for money wines, in particular the lower price categories. The Gold Wine Awards identifies worthy wines to give sales a boost while helping the consumer make better buying decisions.

The tasting was conducted by the Cape Wine Academy and all judges are consumers that are qualified tasters or Cape Wine Academy graduates. The results of the tasting were statistically linked to the price of the wine to determine which wine was real value for money. The judging panel included Joakim Blackadder, Ad Wegner, Catherine Barrat, Catherine Dillon, David March, Dominic Bowers, Sandra Hembling, Johan von Wielligh, Ralph Reynolds, Marlvin Gwese, Ginette de Fleuriot and Wanda Cronjé.

The Alchemy range is vibrant and youthful – perfect for any occasion. The range currently consists of the Alchemy Chenin Blanc Semillon Sauvignon Blanc, Alchemy Syrah Mourvedre Grenache (SMG), Alchemy Merlot Malbec Cabernet Franc and the Alchemy Syrah Cabernet Sauvignon. The versatility of this range allows the winemaking team to experiment with blends as they select only the best and rarest pockets of vineyards with which to work their magic.

Available from most retail outlets nationwide, consumers in the Western Cape will get the chance to put the wines’ versatility to the test at the inaugural Alchemy Wines Hamburger Cook Off this Heritage Day, Thursday, 24 September. Six finalists will battle it out for the best burger paired with a wine from the Alchemy range. A day in the Winelands not to miss. For more information email
