Jason’s Hill brings home the awards

jasons-hillThey may be small, but they certainly pack a punch. Jason’s Hill Private Cellar reaffirmed its position as a favourite amongst consumers for their superb value-for-money wines, excelling in two industry-related competitions.

First on the list was the 2015 Gold Wine Awards, which saw the estate winning four Gold medals. These were awarded to their Sauvignon Blanc 2015, Pinotage 2013, Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 and Shiraz 2012.

The Gold Wine Awards, established in 2014, was born out of a need to help the consumer make educated buying decisions and to help worthy wines sell. With the vast amounts of wine available to the consumer on shelves, there is very little to guide them, especially in the lower price categories.

One of the stipulations for entries was that the wines had to be R80.00 including VAT or less, and easily accessible to the South African consumer at that price. The price limit will be adjusted every year to allow for inflation and the average increase in price. Only gold medals were awarded.

Continuing their winning streak was the estate’s excellent achievement at this year’s Vitis Vinifera Awards, with two Double Gold and three Gold medals awarded. The winning wines were the Merlot 2013 (Double Gold), Jason’s Creek Classic Red 2013 (Double Gold), Sauvignon Blanc 2015 (Gold), Shiraz 2012 (Gold) and the Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 (Gold).

A consumer-driven competition, the objective is to commend more good wines than any other competition, where normally the focus is primarily on the exclusive, elusive top echelon wines.

And the cherry on the cake! Jason’s Hill was awarded a Platinum medal – one of only 14 awarded this year – at the 2015 Michelangelo International Wine & Spirits Awards for the Jason’s Hill Merlot 2013. A Double Gold medal was awarded to the Izak Reserve 2013, with the Jason’s Hill Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 securing a Silver medal.   Now in its 19th year, the Michelangelo International Wine & Spirits Awards is the only wine competition in South Africa with an exclusive international panel of accredited wine judges, winemakers, wine masters, journalists and sommeliers.

Family owned cellar, Jason’s Hill Private Cellar is tucked away at the foot of the Slanghoek Mountains with sixth-generation award-winning winemaker Ivy du Toit keeping alive the tradition of vine growing and wine making in the Du Toit family. For more information as well as their range of offerings visit www.jasonshill.co.za.
