LAUNCH OF 40KW thin-film solar panels at Camphill Village:
Camphill Village West Coast has established one of South Africa’s first solar powered dairies. The innovative 20kW solar power plant allows them to provide for the electricity needs from renewable energy for their dairy needs, creating a more sustainable future for their community. Exciting news is that 40KW thin-film solar panels will now be added to reach 60KW. This addition is kindly donated by First Solar and will be launched on the morning of the Camphill Village Music Festival at 10h00. Camphill Village MD James Sleigh says: “Our ultimate aim is to take our entire operation off grid, making us totally independent of Eskom. Not only will this save enormous costs, which will enable us to channel these resources into the care of residents who most need it, but it will also enhance us in our striving to be as environmentally sustainable as possible.”

Camphill Village Westcoast:
Camphill has provided a unique inclusive approach to life for Intellectually Disabled adults, for over 50 years, involving them in the activities of a thriving community. Residents live and work at Camphill. They live in group homes, run by a group home leader, and work in one of the various enterprises on the premises. The enterprises consist of a dairy, a bakery, a cosmetics workshop and a working farm. Produce from the enterprises are sold to many shops and outlets in Cape Town. The revenue generated from these sales, helps to sustain the organisation. The Music Festival is a Fundraising event to further support the Camphill Village Westcoast community.
