A brilliant career best innings from Luthando Mnyanda (188; 280 balls; 21 x4, 2×6) was the highlight of the weekend’s Sunfoil Cup Three Day match between SWD and Eastern Province at the REC in Oudtshoorn. The match ended in a draw. Mnyanda spent more than 6 hours – 387 minutes at the crease – and he in the process sent a clear message to the Cape Corbras coach, Paul Adams. SWD (8.2 points) won the battle of bonus points thanks to a high first innings total. EP earned 5.2 bonus points.
Eastern Province, who batted first, recovered from 148/5 thanks to a partnership 129 runs between Sithembiso Ndwandwa (43) and Onke Nyaku (93*). SWD, thanks to Mnyanda, Waldo Lategan (72) and Sammy-Joe Avontuur (71) posted 459/5 in their first innings for a lead of. With EP’s second innings total at 45/1 the two captains agreed at tea time on the final day that no result was possible.

The SWD cricket team will be bitterly disappointed after a nail-biting three run defeat in their Cricket South Africa Twenty20 encounter against Eastern Province on Sunday.
Although EP posted a competitive score (150/6) in their compliment of 20 overs SWD had perfect start thanks to an opening partnership of 52 from only 39 balls between Waldo Lategan (41; 25 balls, 1×6, 7×4) and Sammy-Joe Avontuur (36; 1×6, 3×4). With six overs (36 balls) to go the home side was well on track with their total at 110/3 – needing 41 from 36 balls. In spite of another fine innings by Hanno Kotze (22 from 19 balls; 1×4) SWD ended their innings at 147/5 – three runs short.
