DURATION: 4 Full Days ( excluding First Aid Course).
REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must:
- be over 20 years old
- have a valid SA ID or Refugee Status or Passport with work permit in the Tourism Sector
- have completed at least Grade 11 or a Level 3 qualification or work history in the Tourism Industry
- be willing to learn
REGISTRATION: Candidates will need to complete Tourist Guide Institute’s registration form, produce a copy of ID (refugee papers, passport, work permit) and a short CV listing; contact details, academic qualifications, other qualifications and a brief work history.
BRIEF COURSE OUTLINE:
DAY 1: Registration, explanation of qualifications and paperwork, ice breaker activity

Guiding Techniques and Care of Customer

Site inspection to identify hazards and how to manage them
DAY 2: Garden Route Knowledge / Information

DAY 3: Individual research using computers and the internet

Last two Unit Standards explained and started in class

Final paperwork and course evaluation
Day 4: On site assessment – each candidate gets the chance to guide the group for 15 minutes (part of a tour) to be assessed by accredited Tourist Guide Institute Assessor (Unit Standard 335801) and peer assessment.
Each candidate to hand in their self-study, written assignments, for each of the 4 relevant unit standards, three weeks after the end of the course.
COST: R3 300 per candidate for site guide training.
COST INCLUDES: 4 full days lectures by experienced accredited guide/trainer, training manual and candidate folders, assistance with all 5 Unit Standards on site, extra half day assessment of onsite tour by each candidate with accredited assessor, Unit Standards assessed by accredited assessor, extra visit by assessor to help with registration, sign off assessments and hand over certificates
