Mixed results for SWD in Durban

SWD suffered a disappointing innings defeat in the CSA Provincial Three-Day match against KZN in Durban when the lost by an innings and 75 runs.

KZN, who batted first, posted a formidable total of 362 thanks to centuries by Jonathan Vandier (114) and a fine innings by Daryn Smit (92).  For SWD Glenton Stuurman had an outstanding performance with the ball with a career-best performance of 7/85.

The SWD batting unit failed in both the first and follow-on innings when they were bowled out for 118 and 169 respectively.  Brendon Louw (59) made the only significant contribution with the bat in SWD’s follow-on innings.

KWAZULU NATAL WON BY AN INNINGS AND 75 RUNS

After a disappointing performance in the Sunfoil Cup Three Day match SWD bounced back and recorded an 18 runs victory against KwaZulu Natal in the Limited over match that was played at the Chatsworth Oval on Sunday.

SWD, who were put in to bat had a great start thanks to an opening partnership of 73 runs in only 10 overs between Waldo Lategan (25; 33 balls; 1×6; 4×1) and Neil Hornbuckle (37; 33 balls; 2×6; 6×4) but struggled to get the upper-hand in the middle overs.  They only scored 75 runs in the 25 overs between overs 10 and 35 but Brendon Louw (89; 116 balls; 1×6, 8×4) and Siyabonga Booi (25; 50 balls; 2×4) provided some stability with a partnership of 69 runs for the 8th wicket.  Louw was the batting hero with a career best innings as SWD posted 237/7 in their allotted 50 overs.

SWD picked up wickets at regulate intervals to keep the pressure on the home side.

KZN were 182/7 when the rain came down after 43 overs to allow SWD victory by 17 runs according to the Duckworth/Lewis formula.
