Trade has high hopes for December

Daily-SA-Tourism-Update-Logo-croppedMembers of the SA trade are expecting a high number of arrivals from Europe over the December period and have reported an increase in bookings for the holiday season.

Andre Schulz, GM of Lufthansa South Africa, said Lufthansa’s bookings for December were full. “December is traditionally a high-season month with inbound tourist mainly seeking the sun and visiting friends and relatives.”

Giorgi Vass, COO of Springbok Atlas is expecting its tailor-made FIT and groups department for Europe and the UK to see triple the bookings experienced for the same period last year. “We also have many supporter groups coming, due to the England cricket team travelling to SA for test matches.”

Martin Wiest, CEO at Tourvest Destination Management is seeing high bookings for December and said the company’s bookings were currently growing in excess of 20%, mainly due to the weak rand and the Ebola crisis ending.

However, Elana Redelinghuys – GM of Guided Tours, says December looks very quiet and appears to be the same as last year.

Most European markets were down for the first six months of 2015 compared with the same period last year, while only a few showed year-on-year growth in July.
