The 4th competition that took place at the 30th South African Emergency Services Institute (SAESI) Conference this year, once again confirmed the competence, strength and confidence of the Eden District Municipality’s Firefighters.
This year’s conference took place from 3 to 5 November 2015 at the Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg and was attended by Eden’s Fire Station Officer, Mr Wayne Young, as well as competition participants Messrs Emile Conrad, Deon Stoffels, Edwin Lottering and Branville Abrahams.
During the formal part of the events, the local and Australian based speakers mainly focussed their topics around the theme “Building Resilient Communities.” The topics that were under discussion were challenges such as: Education, Risk Management and Societal Security, with the main aim to provide a way forward for all disciplines serving the Fire industry.
The competition took place over the first two days of the Conference and the award ceremony was held on the last day.
The participants used every second to their avail to ensure that they enter the competition in the right spirit and in a good state of fitness. The Eden team only participated in the Relay and Individual disciplines. After showing an outstanding performance in the Relay discipline (Firefighter Combat Rescue Challenge), the team victoriously walked away with 3rd place (bronze) in the category. Mr Emile Conrad took the gold as winner of the Individual discipline.
Well done to the Eden firefighters Edwin Lottering, Emile Conrad, Deon Stoffels and Branville Abrahams, from Senior Management and Eden District Municipality!
