SWD ready for Free State

The SWD cricket team will need to be at their best when they host a strong Free State team at the Recreation Ground at Oudtshoorn this weekend.   SWD will be confident after an encouraging performance in their recent three day match against Northerns in Pretoria and will be hoping to put a clinical performance together.

With the VKB Knights that are out of the RAM Slam T20 competition Free State will be boosted with the inclusion of Shadley van Schalkwyk while Pite van Biljon, Obus Pienaar, Quinton Friend and Tumi Masekela are all players that made their mark at franchise level.  Waldo Lategan and his troops will be keen really make an impact and to record their first outright victory in the Sunfoil Three Day competition.  The key to SWD’s success will be in the hands of their bowling attack with Gurshwin Rabie, Marcello Piedt and Glenton Stuurman.

In the Twenty20 competition SWD won one out of their two fixtures and they will be desperate to change their fortunes against Free State after a defeat earlier this year in the Africa Twenty20 Cup.

The SWD team for the three day match is:  Waldo Lategan (captain), Luthando Mnyanda, Neil Hornbuckle, Sammy-Joe Avontuur, Brendon Louw, Erinn Ewerts, Marcello Piedt, Nelson Setimani,  Siyabonga Booi, Glenton Stuurman and Gurshwin Rabie.   Hanno Kotze, Otneill Baartman and Siya Simetue will be added for the T20 match.

The Free State team is:  Bokang Mosena, Andries Gous, Leus du Plooy, Pite van Biljon, Patrick Botha, Thabo Mashshemane, Shadley van Schalkwyk, Quinton Friend, Gino Vries, Tumi Masekela, Tsepo Nthuli, Obus Pienaar and Nteke Nthako.
