Message from Eden DM Speaker

1MESSAGE BY THE SPEAKER, COUNCILLOR DORIS NAYLER

The Eden District encompasses the pristine Garden Route and Little Karoo. The Garden Route includes a beautiful, safe coastline and a diverse and abundant biodiversity that stretches through the contrasting Little Karoo; a panorama of russets and yellows, fynbos and succulents.

We have recently won the Greenest District Municipality Award for the 3rd consecutive time. This is because we have a dedicated team working towards a better life and living conditions for all communities.

However, during 2014 some of the households in the district fell victim to various tragedies. As a result of this, the Office of the Speaker launched a project called House-to-Home. This goodwill project attends to the needs of people who were victims of tragedies and serves as a pro-active movement that sources and
provides necessities to communities during the cold winter months and rainy season.

House-to-Home has supplied, via the Eden District Municipality, blankets, stoves, roofing material and towels, as well as other essentials to the needy. In the past, various organisations were assisted, that includes: The George Night Shelter, Bethesda Home for Children, a Care centre for handicapped children in Mossel Bay and various homeless people.

We also know that you care and that you want to help, but we urge you not to give money to the children on the street. These type of donations promotes substance abuse and keeps children away from organisations that are there to help them. If you would like to donate any household goods or funds to better the lives of communities, please contact me on 083 993 6340.

We hope and trust that you will enjoy your stay here and that it will be a memorable one.

Doris Nayler,
Speaker,
Eden District Municipality
