On 9 December 2015, Eden District Municipality (Eden DM) employees commemorated International Anti-Corruption Day. A declaration was delivered to a large number of employees by Councillor Tertuis Simmers, Eden DM Portfolio Councillor: Corporate Services, at the Eden DM head office.

The Declaration is as follows:
“We are here today at EDM to tell society and government that we care and we want to state publicly that corruption robs us of important resources and destroys our economy.
In view of Eden’s clean audit we need to strive towards maintaining it going forward.
The only way is to strengthen Good Governance Practices throughout the municipality and abide by the rule of the Law.
Furthermore we need to institutionalise measures to curtail the prevalence of fraud and corruption and foster a culture of clean administration and ethical leadership.
We also want to urge officials and the public to make use of our Anti Fraud Hotline available 24 hours a day / 365 days a year at 0800 21 47 64.
I conclude by urging you to unite against corruption! Join us to build a better society for us and the future generations to come. “
