A heavily wounded SWD will face the Border Bears at the REC Ground in Oudtshoorn in the Cricket South Africa Provincial Challenge competition.
SWD will be without Erinn Ewerts, the recently appointed captain of the SWD team who is suffering from a groin injury. After defeats in both the Three Day and One Day matches against Western Province the past weekend the local team will be under huge pressure to make a step in the right direction.
The 20-year-old Chris Marrow who represented SWD at schools level and who represented SWD earlier in the Africa T20 Cup will become SWD’s 67th first class player and a positive debut can pave a way for him in the team. Gurshwin Rabie will captain the three-day team and Waldo Lategan will take charge in the one-day match on Sunday.
Border, with former hard-hitting SWD batsman, Christiaan Jonker as captain, will post a real challenge for the Oudtshoorn-based team in both the three and one-day match. In the One-Day Competition, SWD is in the second position (12 points after three matches) and is still in a position to reach the final but they cannot afford and defeats.
SWD will also be keen to record their first victory in the Sunfoil Three-Day competition where they are still without a victory after seven matches (four draws and two defeats) and in the 7th position out of seven on the log at 35.68 points.
The SWD team for the three-day match is: Neil Hornbuckle, Hanno Kotze Sammy-Joe Avontuur Sithembiso Ndwandwa, Chris Marrow, Brendon Louw, Siyabonga Booi, Glenton Stuurman, Marcello Piedt, Nelson Setimani and Gurshwin Rabie. Waldo Lategan, Pieter Stuurman and Otneill Baartman will be added for the one-day match.
The Border team is: Gionne Koopman, Darryl Brown, Marco Marais, Avumile Mnci, Mkhululi Calana, Paphama Fojela, Thandolwethu Mnyaka, Brandon Williams, Sinovuyo Ntuntwana, Christian Jonker (Captain), Lundi Mbane, Clayton Bosch and Yanda Pangabantu
