Stanford Mbandezi was pulled over by traffic officials for driving under the influence.
The African National Congress (ANC) officials in the Southern Cape are set to meet to discuss the conduct of a councillor who was arrested for alleged drunk driving.
Mossel Bay councillor Stanford Mbandezi faces a criminal charge after being pulled over by traffic officials intoxicated while behind the wheel.
It’s alleged he had been returning from a council committee meeting and there are claims he was disruptive in that meeting.
The ANC’s Southern Cape secretary Major Sokopo says the regional executive committee will meet tomorrow.
“We have got his side, which we think as the ANC we want to raise our own views about the matter. Those will be raised in tomorrow’s meeting.”
At the same time, Mossel Bay speaker Kallie Smit has confirmed he has received complaints that Mbandezi was intoxicated during the meeting and interfered with the mayor’s presentation.
“That will have to be investigated to get to the facts, and according to the facts obtained during the investigation. I will be in the position to go on with an investigation into the matter.”
