All set for exciting cricket final on Saturday

A big clash is expected on Saturday at the Recreation Ground in Oudtshoorn when the defending champions, Union Stars, and the George Madibaz will log horns in the Sedgars SWD Premier League final that will be hosted at the Recreation Ground in Oudtshoorn.

Union Stars who will be playing in their seventh consecutive final don’t have to be reminded of the fact that NMMU in the 2013/14 shattered their dreams for a fifth consecutive title when they defeated them in the final.  The Bridgton based team will have a slight advantage going into the final considering their experience with not less than ten players from Union Stars have played first class cricket and.  Although they are without Waldo Lategan (getting married), Erin Ewerts (injured) and Otneill Baartman (playing at SA Colts week) they still field a strong outfit with a formidable bowling attack that includes provincial heroes like Marcello Piedt, Nelson Setimani and Gurshwin Rabie.

NMMU will field a young and exciting team with Hanno Kotze and Lyndon Volkwyn their key players. Players like Coenie Nel, Tyron Walsh, Wiaan Oosthuizen and Johandré Barnard, who all emerged from the SWD Academy pipeline will have the opportunity on Saturday to proof a point at the big stage.

The team that won on Saturday will also represent SWD at the Cricket South African Momentum Club Championships in April in Pretoria.

The squads for Saturday are:
