The Cricket South Africa (CSA) Franchise Academy Week returns to Potchefstroom from 14-20 March 2016. The six franchises will be represented by Academy teams that will take part in two three-day matches during the duration of the under-23 tournament.
CSA Senior Cricket Manager, Edward Khoza said:
“The role of the Franchise Academy structure is to ensure a smooth transition for identified cricketers leaving school and prepare them for the next phase of the CSA Cricket Pipeline namely, the Senior Provincial and Professional levels. The programme is intended to create a learning environment of excellence through the holistic development of cricketers between and under the age of 23 years in both cricket and formal education or vocational training.”
Teams will be fighting it out for 2016 championship bragging rights, while players will also aim to earn a spot in the South Africa Franchise Academy XI, which will be selected at the end of the Week to participate in the CSA Future Cup tournament from 08-10 April 2016 in Kimberley.
Otneill Baartman from South Western Districts will represent the Cape Cobras at this prestige event. Unfortunately Jean du Plessis, also from SWD, had to withdraw due to a finger injury.
