Woodstock Live, Sunday 20 March 2016
Trafalgar Park, Woodstock.
Presented by the Kaggen Music & Film Trust
Woodstock Live kicks off with a music concert this Sunday 20 March (the next day is a public holiday). The line up includes the soulful blues crooner Manny Walters, new afro-indie kids on the block Ben Dey & the Concrete Lions, Congolese afro-folk-pop troubadour Tresor, the latino-fusion mayhem of Los Tacos, big beats by live-electronic darlings Goodluck, electro-boogie favourites Mix n Blend, the mythical and revolutionary DJ InviZAble joined on stage by his comrade Computer General and the pioneering force that is Das Kapital.
Woodstock Live is about establishing an environment of creative expression and engagement through spontaneous and meaningful cultural conversations. Various socially-focused music events will be staged at Trafalgar Park, District 6, Woodstock, throughout the year.
We asked the Woodstock Live performers to describe Woodstock in three words:
Das Kapital – “community is everything”
DJ INVIZABLE – “alive, intense, colourful”
TRESOR official – “trendy, creative, artistic”
GOODLUCK – “vibrant, bustling, fun”
Ben Dey and The Concrete Lions – “on the rise”
Los Tacos – “wild wild Woodstock”
Manny Walters – “heritage, culture”
Mix n Blend – “starting the change”
The Liminals – “groovy, raw”
We also invited some of the artists to have some fun and chat to us in studio. See what they were up to here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rI6DgHDE2Gk
The venue: Trafalgar Park, corner of Searle Street and Victoria Road, Woodstock. The park carries much history, including structures that date back to the late 18th century. Trafalgar Park was proclaimed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1968 and is protected for its historic value.
