The southern Cape village of Wilderness is set to come alive with colour, sounds, tastes and crowds when the 2016 Wilderness Cheese and Wine Festival gets underway at the Wilderness Hotel on May 13 for a three day extravaganza of wine, cheese, music and other festival fare.
Festival-goers can look forward to enjoying the tastes of Kingwill cheeses or sipping on wines from the cellars of Alvi’s Drift, Jakkalsvlei, Stellenrus, Van Loveren, Oranje Rivier Kelders and more, between browsing stalls for special items of clothing, or creative arts, crafts and novelties.
Local musicians, including well-known artists like Steve Newman, Heather Waters, LeRoy and Sugar and Spice, will provide no less than 30 hours of music, covering a wide range of sounds from jazz to old-style rock ‘n roll brought together by BC Sound in conjunction with CAW Sound.
Wild Info Wildfest organiser Jacques Pratt said reservations were picking up for the May 13 to 15 weekend at the Wilderness Hotel, which will be providing the venue for the festival, from out-of-towners keen to join the crowds of South-Western Cape locals expected to descend on the seaside village.
He said care has been taken to provide all those attending the festival with the best possible experience. Secure and supervised entertainment and activities for children would be provided by Twinkletots near the hotel entrance. This would enable parents to enjoy the music and cheese and wine tastings secure in the knowledge that their children were in good hands.
Ample secure parking would be made available on the Village Common opposite the hotel and moves are underway to arrange a shuttle service between Wilderness and George to accommodate those who want to avoid driving home after enjoying the wine-tasting.
Tickets for the festival as well as wine-tasting glasses, will be available at the entrance to the festival in the hotel, or tickets can be obtained online through Ticketstroom at www.bit.ly/ticketswine
