The Eden District Municipality (Eden DM) Roads Services employs ±300 employees who form approximately 50% of the Eden DM workforce.
Injuries on duty, at Roads Services, improved from 52 incidents in 2014, to only 24 in 2015. This 60% improvement, was accomplished as a result of Management and the Occupational Health and Safety officers’ proactive identification, evaluation and mitigation of potential hazards. Workers were involved in the aforementioned process to identify reoccurring problems in construction design, engineering changes, project management and on site, to reduce future incidents, fatalities and serious injuries.
In an effort to motivate construction teams, training on lifting techniques have also been provided to employees by an Occupational Therapist, Ms. Karin Weskamp, since 2013.
Safety Awards were initiated in 2013 by Eden DM to recognize the exceptional efforts of staff, who have gone out of their way to ensure that the safety of workers receive priority.
