The Training Committee of Eden District Municipality approved the organisation’s Workplace Skills Plan (WSP) for the year 2016/2017. The signing of the Plan took place in the Eden Council Chamber on Tuesday, 26 April 2016.

The parties were represented by Cllr Tertuis Simmers, in his capacity of Chairperson for the Training Committee and Chairperson of the Eden Local Labour Forum, SAMWU union representative, Mr Bonisile Desha and IMATU union representative, Mr Faan van der Merwe. Eden’s Skills Development Facilitator, Mr Reginald Salmons, who took the lead in ensuring that the document is presented in a high quality manner, was also a signatory to the Plan.
During the ceremony Cllr Simmers, while signing on the dotted line, commented: “We do so with the full knowledge that the consultation processes that have led to this moment, were transparent and that we reached all our employees across the district.”
“The 2016/17 WSP will address the needs of all employees, irrespective on which level they are within the organisation, thereby ensuring that all employees improve the quality of their lives by empowering themselves with the knowledge and skills needed.” Cllr Simmers further highlighted, that the Plan will facilitate access to mobility and progression within education and training, as well as career paths of the Eden staff members.
Mr Francois Goosen, Eden’s Manager for Support Services and Ms Angeline Naidoo, Eden’s Training & Development Officer, who assisted with the compilation with the Plan, also attended the ceremony.
