BOKSBURG (16 May 2015) – A year ago, Mpumalanga torpedoed Boland’s title defence when they beat the defending champions in the opening round of the SA Country Districts Inter-Provincial at ERPM Golf Club. But revenge is sweet and 12 month on, Boland reciprocated to derail Mpumalanga’s bid for successive titles in Monday’s opening round at Nelspruit Golf Club.
Lali Stander – Boland scored a clean sweep in the Foursomes to take a tidy 4 – 0 lead over the local favourites into the Singles and victories from Lauritz Loubser, Coenraad Swanepoel, Cedric Rooi and Dylon Jacobs secured an 8 – 4 result for the 2014 champions.
North West thumped Ekurhuleni 11 – 1 to take pole position in the A-Section log on games points.
Meanwhile Kwa-Zulu Natal hammered Eastern Province 10.5 – 1.5 for a convincing start in the B-Section battle for promotion.
The coastal side started the Singles on the front foot with a 4 – 0 lead. Ryno Crous, Sean Baker, Jens Hillerman, Combrinck Smit and Louis Albertse delivered the blows to Eastern Province to stretch the lead to 9 – 0 and halves from Corne van Deventer, Steve Phutides and Derek Scullard helped the side to start the week on a very positive note.
In the other B-Section matches, Border beat Limpopo 8 – 4, while Southern Cape fought back in the Singles draw 6-all against Northern Cape.
