The Neil Woolridge Motorsport (NWM) Ford Performance team suffered a major setback when a fire destroyed a large section of its workshop in Pietermaritzburg.
Brian Joss – Sadly, both of the team’s Ford Rangers, which were due to compete last weekend at the Lichtenburg 450 cross country race, were also victims of the blaze.
“This is devastating for the team,” said team principal Neil Woolridge, who is currently attending the Baja Spain race to support the latest NWM-built cross country Ford Ranger competing in the event.
It isn’t yet known what caused the blaze, but a large portion of the workshop was burnt down, and both vehicles suffered extensive damage.
“The fire began after hours, so fortunately no-one was injured, but this obviously rules out our participation in the upcoming race with our two existing cars. We’re pulling out all the stops to see if we can make alternative arrangements in order to at least give Chris Visser a chance to continue fighting for the championship,” Woolridge said.
“It’s a real low point for us, but the team is young, dynamic and resilient. We will regroup and do everything we can to return with a vengeance as soon as possible. In the meantime, we thank our sponsors, partners and our many fans for their ongoing support.”
