On Friday 21st October 2016, Dr Willie Cilliers (Chairman of the George Business Chamber) and Ingrid Cronje (CEO of the George Business Chamber) returned from Johannesburg after attending the Annual Ahi Conference in Centurion.

It is also the occasion when the national “Business Chamber of the Year” is announced. The George Business Chamber brought home the trophy as winners of the title for the second time in three years.
“There are 105 competing Chambers and we are humbled to have been awarded the title once again. It is our privilege to represent our members who are the life blood of the business Community as well as the partners and stakeholders who make things possible.
“We attribute our success to the amazing and loyal relationships that we share with these entities whose interests lie in the welfare of the community and the need to support a sustainable economy. We are all partners and agents of Change and the mutually respectful relationships that are shared with Local Government and other stakeholders and partners is also of great value and a key differentiator,” said Dr Cilliers.
Dr Cilliers said the trophy gives our people hope for the growth of the economy. “We are very serious about creating jobs.”
He was also very happy to have support at the George Airport where Executive Deputy Mayor of George, Cllr Gerrit Pretorius and Cllr David Willemse, Portfolio Councillor for Strategic Services, George Municipality as well as the media, family and friends awaited Dr Cilliers and Ms Cronje.
Cllr Pretorius said the prestige this award brings is phenomenal. “It also lays a foundation from where we can launch ourselves into the country, Africa and abroad so people can see George is where big stuff in the economy is happening.
Cllr David Willemse, Portfolio Councillor for Strategic Services, George Municipality says he is very proud of George Business Chamber for receiving this Award and cannot wait to journey with the Chambers to create opportunities and jobs for those in need.
Mr Trevor Botha, Municipal Manager for George, congratulated the George Business Chamber for work well done. He said this is great marketing for the City of George and all can be proud of this achievement.
