The South Western Districts Cricket team will be hoping for an improvement when they take on Easterns as in the Cricket South Africa Provincial competition at Willowmoore Park in Benoni this weekend. The Sunfoil Cup Three day match will start on Thursday and the limited over match will be contested on Sunday.
The men from the Southern Cape had a very disappointing start to the season when they were defeated in their own backyard in both the three day and the one day match two weeks ago.
SWD recently recruited the former SA U/19, Lancashire, Leicestershire and North West batsman, Andrea Agathangelou to bolster their batting line-up. In 53 first class matches he scored five centuries and 14 fifties.
Young and upcoming players like Hanno Kotze and Neil Hornbuckle (both batsmen), Otneill Baartman and Glenton Stuurman (both bowlers) will be motivated to make an impact this season and this weekend will be an ideal platform to showcase their potential. Marcello Piedt (shoulder) and Gurshwin Rabie (leg) were not considered due to injury. Kotze will stand-in as captain for the injured Rabie.
The SWD team for the weekend is: Neil Hornbuckle, Hanno Kotze, Chris Marrow, Andrea Agathangelou , Brendon Louw, Murray Commins, Siyabonga Booi, Glenton Stuurman, Mafinke Serami, Otneill Baartman and Mtobeli Bandingawo. Nelson Setiami (12th man)
