Garden Route & Klein Karoo ready for 2016/2017 festive period

The Garden Route & Klein Karoo Region is definitely ready and geared for the 2016 festive season. All towns have their seasonal campaigns that will be kicking off this week and will run for the duration of December till early January.

eden-dmIn 2015 the trends indicated a higher portion of domestic (61.2%) than overseas (37.9%) visitors. The top international markets to the region included Germany, United Kingdom and Netherlands. The top domestic markets were the Western Cape, Gauteng and Eastern Cape. For this year we are expecting more or less the same trends, though we hope for an increase on the domestic side, and we urge all South Africans to come and explore the diversity on the Garden Route & Klein Karoo.

Below are the top 3 things to do in various places situated in the region:

Plettenberg Bay:  Birds of Eden, Plett Winelands and adventure activities.

Knysna:  Oysters and Slow-Food options, Micro Breweries, Cycling and Mountain biking trails.

George:  Paraglide in Wilderness, World Class Golf courses, the Map of Africa view point and walk on 6 beautiful beaches.

Mossel Bay:  Visit Blue Flag beaches, the Bartholomeu Diaz Museum complex and the Point of Human Origin.

Hessequa:  Visit the Aleo factories, Grootvadersbosch Nature Reserve and Inverroche Distillery.

Oudtshoorn:  Cango Caves, Ostrich Farms and Buffelsdrift Game Lodge.

Calitzdorp:  Calitzdorp Arts and Crafts Meander, Donkey Trails and Guided Historical Walks through town.

Also see our regional events calendar at www.visitgardenrouteandkleinkaroo.com to get up to date with all the activities that’s happening in the region.

We also urge everyone to download our “Garden Route and Klein Karoo” App for info on all towns in the region and what they offer (things to do, places to eat, where to stay etc.)

Tourist safety is high on our agenda as a Regional Tourism Office, therefore we encourage everyone to exercise extreme caution on the roads, beaches and while enjoying what the region has to offer. In an event of an emergency, kindly contact the Tourism Safety and Support Representative for the Southern Cape and Karoo, Ms Ilze Jacobs, on 082 972 2507.
