South Africa’s most talked about charity auction, the Cape Wine Auction, is gearing up to take the winelands by storm and one of its sponsors has added to the cause with a worthwhile initiative of their own.
The two-day Cape Wine Auction will kick off with the Friday Barrel Auction, where guests have the opportunity to taste and bid on exclusive vintages from some of South Africa’s top winemakers. American Express®, sponsor of the Barrel Auction, has recently launched a new campaign in partnership with the Cape Wine Auction aimed at inspiring school children from the local wine farm region. Together with the schools, which have been identified by Cape Wine Auction Trust facilitator Andi Norton, American Express® has asked school children to draw what they want to be when they grow up.
The winning entry will be unveiled at the Friday Barrel Auction. It will be featured alongside American Express® point-of-sale branding at affiliated wine farms, and the winning school child will receive a brand new bicycle. As a gesture of thanks the participating schools will each be given books for their libraries.
“American Express is proud to be associated with the Cape Wine Auction, which makes a significant contribution to education in the Cape region. This year, we’re delighted to be supporting this additional initiative with the cooperation of local schools, and look forward to seeing the winning entry featuring in American Express® branding at payment terminals across the wine farms,” said Alex Furber, Vice President and General Manager, Bank Partnerships EMEA, American Express®
The Friday Barrel Auction will take place at La Motte Wine Estate in Franschhoek on 10 February. Perfect for wine aficionados, the auction lures avid collectors to bid on and taste directly from the barrels and in the company of the winemakers – once off, specially curated and limited release wines.
