Great interest is expected for the Sedgars SWD Promotion league final that will be contested at the Recreation Ground in Oudtshoorn on Saturday when Pioneers from Plettenberg Bay and Mayflower from Great Brak River will battle for the honours.
A tough battle is predicted with promotion to the premier league an additional incentive for the victorious team. Pioneers, who played in their only final nine years ago (in 2008/09 when they lost against Ramblers in the final), are unbeaten this season and will go into the final with a lot of confidence after a comprehensive victory against Blanco in the semi-final. Mayflower, on the other hand, also had an unsuccessful challenge in the 2012/13 final when they lost against NMMU but the Great Brak River based team will be determined to play premier league cricket for the first time on more than 15 years.
The teams are:
MAYFLOWER: Kevin Jansen, Rafiq Matthews, Hugh Minnies, Riaan Prins, Zach Groenewaldt, Ricardo van Wyk, Roopesh Raveedran, Clinton Pietersen, Lmahl Buys, Ashwin Meyer, Allister Pietersen, Medgar Ohlson and Garth Gabriels. The team manager is Virgil Treurnich and the coach is Ashwin Roelfse
PIONEERS: Jacques Ahrendse, Roderick Swartz, Ferdi Heuer, Carlos Koeberg, Danrick Moodien, Nathan Kampher, Garth Bock, Mbuyisile Malanga, Anschwijl Windvogel, Darryl Damons, Claude Terblance, Eden Tarentaal, Vaugh Heyns and Romano Visagie
