Hartenberg wines impress yet again

Highly respected wine journalist, Neal Martin, one of Robert Parker’s Wine Advocates, has scored five of Hartenberg Wine Estate’s wines scores of 90 and above, in his most recent South African Report. The scores were out of a possible 100 points per wine tasted.

The wines receiving these outstanding scores were The Stork Shiraz 2013 (93 points), The Mackenzie 2013 (91 points), Estate Chardonnay 2015 (91 points), Gravel Hill Shiraz 2012 (91 points) and the Eleanor Chardonnay 2015 (90 points).

Neal was most impressed with The Stork Shiraz, in particular the precision and focus of this wine, and the subtle manner in which it builds and then flows towards the finish. In his own words, it was ‘superb’. This award-winning wine is named in honor of fighter pilot Ken ‘Stork’ Mackenzie, and according to Cellar Master Carl Schultz is freshly balanced with a lightly spiced palate and gentle grip. A beautifully medium-bodied wine with an abundance of black fruit, violets and cherry flavours. Available from the Tasting Room at R595 The Stork Shiraz is the perfect partner to a succulent Dijon and herb-crusted rack of lamb served with a simple jus.

The perfect white wine to enjoy during the winter months, the Estate Chardonnay 2015 displays beautiful aromas of apple blossom, citrus fruits and almond which unfold into an amalgamation of decadent flavours in the glass. A well-balanced palate allows for the perfect finish without losing any of the superb quality and precision it has become known for. The wine partners perfectly with cream based dishes, smoked chicken or duck, as well as seared tuna served with olive oil, lime juice and black pepper. Available from the Tasting Room at R115 per bottle.
