It is with great pleasure that we write to confirm that Frank Hunt (whose wife has Alzheimer’s) and his team of eleven runners accompanied by five support members, has undertaken to run the “4 Passes” relay race from Mosselbay to Knysna, from the 25th – 29th September.
The purpose of the race is to raise money for the REA Project (under Alzheimer’s SA) and awareness of the prevalence of the disease in SA and families battling to cope with care.
SEPTEMBER IS ALZHEIMER’S MONTH. THE 21ST SEPTEMBER IS ALZHEIMER’S DAY!
We are proud to be associated with these dedicated people. In order for them to reach as many people in our country as possible, notifying them of the upcoming race as well as feedback of the actual race, we need as much media coverage as possible. Would you be able to assist us in this regard? We will all be at the Santos Express on Sunday, 24th Sep and was wondering whether you could come and do an interview with runners at about 4pm and take some pictures of the whole group to place in the newspapers in the area and outside. The Alzheimer’s SA association in Mosselbay will also be joining us. We will be leaving at 04h30 on the morning of the 25th from Santos and ending at the Boardwalk in Knysna on the 29th between 1-2pm.
Funds raised will be used to render the following services:
Awareness talks at churches and Nursing Homes to family members and carers of people suffering from dementia; Dementia care training to carers in dementia care facilities who could not otherwise afford training; Home visits; Providing stipends and cell phone top-ups to 10 field workers working in Soweto, Pretoria, Mamelodi, Atteridgeville and Johannesburg who do home visits by assisting to wash patients and give advice on dementia care. These field workers have all been trained in dementia care.
We are BBBEE registered. We offer 18A Tax Certificates to all donors, which is issued for the purpose of Section 18 (A) of the Income Tax Act of 1962 as amended and that the donation has been or will be used exclusively for the services rendered by Alzheimer’s South Africa.
