The 2017 National Braai Tour has been making its way slowly up the Garden Route and through the Klein Karoo. The 200 smokey, yet happy Braai Tourists are now lighting their braais in Plettenberg Bay at the Forever Resorts Keurbooms, this after spending the night at SANParks Ebb & Flow in Wilderness.
The National Braai Tour has already stopped in at Struisbaai, with participants all visiting Cape Agulhas. Day two saw the Tour moving to Kam’Bati River Resort, just outside Swellendam. From Swellendam, the Tour moved inland towards Calizdorp, before calling it a night at the scenic and restful Calitzdorp Spa.
Braai Tour participants have been braaing a wide variety of meals, all from Jan Braai’s recipes. Every day the Tour has also been treated to a “Prime Braai” for brunch, a road side braai hosted by sponsor Tosas. The “Prime Braais” have included boerewors rolls, hamburgers, chicken kebabs, and prawn kebabs.
Currently, the Tour is relaxing on the banks of the Keurbooms river, before moving on to SANParks Storms River Mouth Rest Camp on Friday and then the final destination at Willows Campsite in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.
“The 2017 National Braai Tour has been going phenomenally well, with 200 South Africans from all over the country uniting around fires and sharing their heritage,” says Jan Braai, the man behind the National Braai Tour and the National Braai Day initiative. “Everyone on tour has been having a great time, learning about our different cultures and proudly waving the South African flag to announce our arrival at the various stops. There have been a lot of smiles so far, with people making new friends around the fire – exactly what we want on the National Braai Tour.”
