Local runners and road cyclists are invited to pre-register and join the South African Military Academy on part of their annual TransEnduro exercise on the Garden Route in November.
The TransEnduro is a military tradition dating back to the 1980s in which students from the academy take part in a two-week multi-disciplinary exercise with charity outreach at its core.
The 180 first and second-year students run, cycle and sail from Port Elizabeth to the Military Academy in Saldanha from 22 November – 2 December 2017. The event is supported by student-based logistics and administration teams and is complemented by a strong community outreach programme and fundraising efforts in the towns they visit.
Trans Enduro will arrive in George from Plettenberg Bay on Monday, 27 November 2017 and leave for Still Bay the next day. The running, cycling and sailing events take place simultaneously.
The atmospheric 10km road run through George promises to be a real treat as runners must join in army-style singing aimed at having fun and gaining exposure for fundraising purposes. Interested runners must contact Commanding Officer Bulelani Maguma on 072 281 6143 or magumab@yahoo.com Entries are limited, so book your spot as soon as possible.
Cyclists can join the TransEnduro students on the 50km (100km return) stretch from George to Mossel Bay on the N2, and can turn back where the cycling team proceeds to Still Bay. Individuals and teams wanting to join the cycling team must pre-register by 15 November 2017 by contacting Candidate Officer Puseletso Mathibela on 073 137 6697 or puseletso.mathibela.62@gmail.com. No registration will be allowed on the day.
As running and cycling will take place simultaneously, persons can register for only one of the disciplines.
Persons wanting to participate in other sections of the TransEnduro between Port Elizabeth and Saldanha, other than George, can enquire on the numbers listed above.
Traffic and related implications of the TransEnduro in and around George will be published closer to the event in November.
