JOOX about to take Afrikaans music streaming market by storm

Tencent Africa’s brand new music streaming app JOOX, that enables South Africans to conveniently discover and listen to music wherever they are, is now also jam-packed with Afrikaans music hits. Much of this Afrikaans music is exclusive to the app.

JOOX is packed with various playlists for any mood. The app offers a free as well as paid-for VIP option that enables users to stream music without using any data. Another feature is three different streaming quality options, allowing customers to control their data usage.

Brett Loubser, CEO of Tencent Africa Services, says JOOX has already surpassed other music streaming services in the four other markets into which it has been released. “The combination of our upcoming markets music model, as well as the experience of our local team, makes JOOX a first for South Africa.”

Besides all the local South African music that is already available on the app, Coleske Artists – the producers of Afrikaans is Groot – has uploaded their music exclusively for streaming on JOOX.

According to Arnold Coleske, head of Coleske Artists, JOOX offers a unique platform to ensure artists’ music is digitally available to their fans. “The technology and business possibilities that Tencent brings to the table makes is possible to build on the quality that we offer to listeners. Getting involved was simply a no-brainer.”

“JOOX really is wonderful news. I am excited that my music is available on JOOX along with other artists like Die Heuwels Fantasties, Jay, Riana Nel, Laurika Rauch and Steve Hofmeyr. The great thing about the aqpp is that it is easy to use,” says celebrated singer and TV presenter Bobby van Jaarsveld.

Brendan Peyper, one of the most social media-famous Afrikaans singers in the industry, can not sing the praises of JOOX enough. “My audiences are constantly on their cellphones and it is their primary communication medium. I am excited that they can now listen to and discover all of my music on JOOX. We can’t afford to fall behind technological advances.”

The singer Monique Steyn, who’s new album Mosaic is already available on JOOX, says the most important factor for her is how user-friendly the app is. “My friends can’t believe how easy it is to listen to the music and use all the specific options that the app offers. It is especially handy to store your playlists on your phone so that you don’t have to use all your data when you are driving,” she says.

According to Loubser, JOOX has contracts with various international record companies that all ensure a wide variety of international music and hits on the platform. Local content makes the scale of content bigger and builds a logical business model for South African artists.

Users who download JOOX get their first month of VIP access free, as well as the Feemium option. The paid VIP function will amount to R59,99 per month from then on, with two weeks of VIP access priced at R29,99.

JOOX can now be downloaded for free in the Google Play Store and in the IOS App Store store. Find out more about JOOX at www.joox.co.za.
