Constantia Glen Sauvignon Blanc 2017 has stepped into the limelight yet again with a 5-star rating in the 2018 Platter’s South African Wine Guide added to its string of accolades.
The 2017 Constantia Glen vintage has already excelled on the world stage as one of only two South African Sauvignon Blancs to take home gold medals at the 2017 International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) in London. This wine also hit the spot for British Master of Wine Derek Smedley, who scored it 93/100 earlier this year, while another highly regarded British Master of Wine, Tim Atkin, awarded the 2017 Sauvignon Blanc 91 points in his South African Special Report.
“Our 2017 Sauvignon Blanc stands out as a result to the near-perfect ripening conditions of this vintage. The 2017 Sauvignon Blanc grapes were the most vibrant and flavoursome that I have ever worked with in my 10 years at Constantia Glen. This is a full-bodied wine with immense flavour concentration. The high natural acidity makes the wine racy and fresh, lending the perfect mineral backbone,” explains Winemaker Justin van Wyk.
A complex bouquet of lime zest, gooseberries and green melon greets the senses on your first encounter. With the second swirl of the glass an entire range of savoury spices such as white pepper, fennel seed and cardamom escapes, all beautifully strung together by uplifting whiffs of elderflower and mandarin.
The Constantia Glen Sauvignon Blanc 2017 is available directly from the estate, as well as fine dining restaurants and boutique wine shops. It sells at a cellar door price of R165 per bottle.
