The SWD Cricket team showed huge improvement and gain psychological confidence as they draw their first match in the Cricket South Africa Sunfoil Cup Three Day competition against Eastern Province that was played at the Recreation Ground on Sunday.
After winning the toss and putting Eastern Province in to bat, SWD restricted the visitors to 115 (all out) thanks to a brilliant bowling display by the opening pair – Glenton Stuurman (5/24 in 12.2 overs) and Marcello Piedt (2/28 in 8 overs). SWD responded with 235 thanks to fine contributions by Obus Pienaar (50; 1×6, 6×4), Hanno Kotze (44; 7×4) and Sammy Joe Avontuur (40; 5×4) for a lead of 120 runs on the first innings.
In their second innings a partnership of 201 runs for the 3rd wicket between Kelly Smuts (170) and Tiaan Koekemoer (63) saved the match for EP as they declared their 2nd innings at 368/8 after they bat for 122 overs.
