After a promising start to the 2017/18 season, the SWD will take on the Gauteng Strikers this weekend. SWD, who played against the strong Eastern Province team at the Recreation Ground two weeks ago will again be in action at their home ground in the Sunfoil Cup Three Day competition (from Thursday to Saturday) while the one day match will be played on Sunday.
SWD had the edge in the three-day match against EP and recorded an impressive victory in the limited overs match and the men from the Southern Cape will be keen to maintain positive momentum.
The bowling department with Glenton Stuurman as the leaser is firing on all cylinders but their support for Stuurman is vital in their campaign. Improved performances are expected from the rest of the bowling unit. Justin Jordaan, who was very economical in the limited over match will again be a key factor.
Only one change was made to the team as Sammy-Joe Avontuur who is suffering from a hamstring injury was not declared fit. Jean du Plessis, who will be keen to impress the SA U/19 selectors aiming for a place in the World Cup Squad, will get the opportunity to prove a point.
The SWD team for the three-day match is:
Neil Hornbuckle, Letlotle Sesele, Brendon Louw (captain), Daniel Sincuba, Obus Pienaar, Jean du Plessis, Hanno Kotze, Marcello Piedt, Glenton Stuurman, Bailey Aarons and Sammy Mofokeng. Justin Jordaan will be added to the one day team.
