Disappointment for SWD cricketers in Durban

The SWD cricket team had a disappointing weekend in Durban the past weekend when they drew the three day match and suffered a huge defeat in the limited over match on Sunday.

In the three day match matters were very even after the first innings’ of the teams with SWD who posted 337 in which the home team responded with 387/9 declared for a lead of 50. In SWD’s first innings Neil Hornbuckle (50), Daniel Sincuba (63) and Bailey Aarons (55*) all scored half centuries whilst both Todd Walker (4/52) and Neil Hornbucle (4/71) bagged four wickets each.

In their second innings SWD was dismissed for only 164 leaving KZN the task to score 115 for victory.  With KZN cruising to victory at 91/4 bad light brought an early end to proceedings as the match ended in a draw.

In the limited over match a 70 runs 4th wicket partnership between Hanno Kotze (73; 83 balls, 6×4, 3×6) and Brendon Louw (48; 61 balls, 4×4) gave SWD hope for a competitive total but they were bowled out for 224 (in the 46th over).  KZN achieved a comprehensive bonus point victory as the reached the winning runs (227/5 (in the 39th over).
