Klawer Wine Cellar is one of the finest tourist attractions in the Matzikama region. They offer a unique wine experience and is conveniently situated right next to the N7 just before Klawer. The Cellar specialises in fine and local wines, as well as events. The Cellar receives both local visitors as well as international tour groups. If you are planning on taking a holiday road trip, Klawer is approximately 300 km north of Cape Town and approximately 300 km south of Springbok. Klawer is surrounded by towns like Vredendal, Vanrhynsdorp, Lutzville and the coastal town of Doornbay and Strandfontein where you can find the best fish to pair with their wine.
Klawer Wine Cellar offers a complimentary wine tasting with a backdrop of their beautiful green lawns and the Matzikama Mountains. The captivating view plays an important part helping people relax, sip and enjoy the festive season with friends and family.
Klawer Wine Cellar aims to produce an unforgettable taste experience. They have a trio of distinct ranges on sale – Travino, Villa Esposto and Klawer Wines – to suit one and all; especially useful if you’ve got friends and family descending on you over the festive season.
They also stock their brand new Vino Sacci which is going to take your festive season to a whole new level. These wonderful bags of wine only contain 375 ml wine, meaning fewer half empty wine bottles and lighter cooler bags. The Vino Sacci has a twist cap pourer, meaning you can easily reseal it and because it is in a bag, it will also chill faster than a wine bottle! The Vino Saccis are available at Klawer Wines and contain their Klawer Chenin Blanc and Merlot. They are sold at R20 each and is perfect and very convenient for all the festive madness lying ahead.
Their 2017 Klawer Cellar Viognier has recently been bottled and is now available at the cellar for only R35 a bottle. This wine has nice fruity flavours complimented by new French oak with the presence of a ripe citrus aftertaste.
They also have a brand new addition to their Klawer range, the Shiraz/Malbec 2017 blend. The Shiraz/Malbec is a medium-bodied wine with mixed spice flavours and soft tannins.This wine is also sold at R35 a bottle.
“We stopped for wine tasting. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The prices of the wine is very good and it is definitely better to buy directly from the cellar,” Tienie from Ventersdorp said on TripAdvisor.
They are open throughout December on weekdays from 8 am to 5 pm and on Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm. The cellar will be closed on 25 and 26 December as well as on 1 January.
