Francois Barnard from SWD was one of the heroes on the second day of the Coca-Cola Khaya Majola Week in Johannesburg.

Barnard, a scholar from Langenhoven Gymnasium, struck 115 runs from 124 to steer his side into securing a victory in the first innings against Namibia. SWD’s fast bowler Jean Bruiners (4/30) also played a key role in the victory. Namibia was dismissed for 135 on which SWD replied with 212/3 to secure a winning draw. Other SWD bowlers that impressed were Unathi Mbathane (2/34) and Brian Jack (3/18). Travis Ackerman (32) and Samkelo Mvimbi (40) added valuable support to Barnard who hit 15 fours and 2 sixes in his century.

In their first match on Sunday SWD started the tournament on a high with a victory in the first innings against Easterns. Batting first, Easters were dismissed for 147 with Mbathane (3/20), Ackerman (3/30) and Reagon Rhoode (2/27) the bowling heroes. SWD responded with 209/7 with Ackerman (45), Brain Jack (35) and Odin le Roux (57) the batting heroes.

SWD 102 (all out) unfortunately on Tuesday lost by 26 runs against KwaZulu Natal Inland (128/8) after being 60/6.
