SWD on a mission to Pretoria

The SWD Cricket team will play their penultimate series of fixtures for the season when they take on Northerns in their 9th  Sunfoil Cup Three Day competition match starting in Pretoria on Thursday.

In their eight previous outings Brendon Louw and his team failed to record a victory but they are still unbeaten as all previous matches ended in a draw.  Although the SWD team produced some encouraging performances this season and has improved on their performances in 2016/17 they will be hoping to bowl out the opposition twice to secure a much needed victory.  For this reason the selector opted to change the balance of the team and make provision for an extra bowler.

Based on the current log positions it is clear that Northerns will be a tough challenge for the visitors.  In the Sunfoil Cup Three Day competition in Pool A SWD is 5th   (after 8 matches)  at 102.02 points whilst Northerns are in 7th  position (after 7 matches) with 80.62 points.  In the CSA Limited Over competition SWD have a slight advantage (3rd  place at 19 points) and Northerns (4th place at 17 points).  Northerns have a game in hand.

For SWD the injury to Glenton Stuurman, who missed the last five matches due to an arm injury, was a major set-back.  He will however return for the limited over match.

The SWD team for the Three Day match  is:  Brendon Louw (captain), Lotli Sesele, Jean du Plessis, Daniel Sincuba, Obus Pienaar, Hanno Kotze, Marcello Piedt, Tsepo Ndwandwa, Bailey Aarons, Mthobeli Bangindawo and Bradley de Villiers.  Neil Hornbuckle and Glenton Stuurman will be added for the limited over match.
