High hopes for fabulous floral season

Flower enthusiasts from all over the country as well as overseas cannot wait for the arrival of the yearly flower season that happens in August and September.

The magical transformation of Namaqualand and surrounds into the most spectacular flower carpets in the most glorious colours is a phenomena on the bucket list of many a traveller.

And according to Mike Spies, owner of Namakwa Toere, this year’s flower season won’t disappoint. “We are expecting a great flower season, despite the drought. Namaqualand never disappoints. The region has more than 3500 different species of flowers. One thing you have to remember is that there are up to 40 000 seeds per square meter in some areas. And these seeds can resist the drought. They can germinate this year if circumstances are in their favour,” says Mike.

Namakwa Tours, based in Vanrhynsdorp, is a family-operated business run by people who are passionate about tourism. The enterprise is known for its hospitality, luxurious transport, knowledgeable guides and unforgettable experiences.

On these tours, strangers become friends, and friends become family. According to Mike tourists have such a good time that they stay in touch long after the tours and even return to make group bookings.

Namakwa Tours offer three types of flower tours – you can either pick a four day, five day or tour over six days. Highlights of the tours are:
