Klawer Wine Cellar has released their 2017 Rooibos infused Vermouth, just in time for winter
“Each sip of African Ruby Vermouth results in a true South African taste adventure. You will feel the Matzikama sunset on the tip of your tongue and it will have you coming back for more, each time,” says Cerina van Niekerk, winemaker at Klawer Wine Cellar.
Fifteen years ago the African Ruby Rooibos Infused Vermouth was made and it was a hit! At the 2017 Michelangelo Awards, the African Ruby Rooibos Infused Vermouth was awarded a silver medal and the team at Klawer Wine Cellar believe there are still great things to come.
The African Ruby Vermouth originates from the Olifants River Valley and has a unique South African character. This Rooibos-infused wine with flavours of muscat will leave a rich feel in your mouth.
It is Van Niekerk’s winemaking skills, and excellent grapes that were sourced during the 2017 harvest, that can be thanked for this full bodied wine. According to Franci Nortje, public relations officer and tasting room operator at Klawer Wine Cellar, this wine is unique because it embraces all the components of the area and is made from red muscadel grapes, a cultivar that is very popular in the region.
Not only is this wine a favourite in the Namaqua West Coast where Klawer Wine Cellar is situated, it is also popular internationally. Erin, a blogger from the United States, wrote on her blog – The World Wanderer – about this unique wine after paying a visit to South Africa in 2012 and said it was by far her favourite of all the wines she tasted.
“It was unique and would make the perfect after dinner drink at home. I’m not one to cart around bottles of wine when I travel, but I will say that I couldn’t be happier that I brought home the African Ruby. Now when I am missing Africa, which is more than I care to admit, I can sit down with my pictures, a glass of African Ruby, and I am immediately transported back to that night,” wrote Erin.
According to Nortje, with its popularity among the public, there was no doubt that this dessert wine would be available in the 2017 Klawer Wine range. “The African Ruby Vermouth is a true South African product infused with Rooibos and buchu. Klawer Wine Cellar is proud to have this wine back with the same great taste that the public will adore!” says Nortje.
With Klawer Wine Cellar also included on the Rooibos Route, this wine is fantastic for everyone who is a Rooibos fan. This dessert wine is also extremely versatile! You can drink it on its own, enjoy it as a nightcap after dinner or use it in a sunset cocktail. This great dessert wine has an aging potential of 5 to 8 years.
If you would like to try this unique wine, you can stop at Klawer Wine Cellar for a complimentary tasting and you can also buy the wine directly from the cellar for only R70 a bottle. If you can’t make the trip, send an email to Nortje to order it and have it delivered anywhere in South Africa.
This is what a visitor at Klawer Wine Cellar had to say about his experience: “We stop on our way back home from Langebaan for some wine tasting, excellent service from Franci Nortje and good wine. We order some wine online and must say the service was also excellent, we received our wines in less than a week from the date of order. Will definitely buy from them again.”For more information, visit Klawer Wine Cellar’s website www.klawerwine.co.za or take a look at their social media profiles on Facebook @KlawerWynkelder/KlawerWines, Twitter @klawerwyn or Instagram @klawerwyn.
